There are two things that are weird about this post. This will be the last time I blog from living in my childhood home with my family and a certain feline friend. And this is the first time I’m going to mention items of fashion in considerable detail in a post. So I’d call this a momentous blog. Really momentous. Note: It is long, but it’s mostly photographs! Also, sorry for the lag- I’d recommend letting the photos load before you scroll!
On point 1, the action of moving out, I don’t think I even need to explain how nervous I am. I’m moving from a house I’ve known for over 18 years to this little hide-y hole in the middle of London where I’ll have to take those odd, powerful things we call “responsibilities”, seriously. It’s not the sort of nerves you take into an exam hall, or onto a stage, but a deeper sense of nerves. Like the butterflies in your stomach lie low for a long time, and then, just when you think they’ve gone, they bite your pressure points. Weird analogy? Weird analogy.
My entire life’s worth of clothing and shoes, selected DVDS, books and records, and all the bathroom and kitchen stuff you can think of (which is actually considerably more than you can think of, as it happens) was packed into numerous suitcases, and now lies await in the spare room looking as helpless as I am. Whilst there is an intense excitement about the thought of moving to a brand new world and living this brand new life, I found myself putting off packing until the end of the week as if I didn’t want to leave. There has never been so much of a conflicting feeling. And of course, I found myself running around today, eyes wide and very stressed, trying to sort out the last little titbits to go in.
I leave early for my big adventure and I can’t even begin to imagine how scared I’ll be then. Of course rational thoughts like “everyone’s feeling this” help, but have very little effect on the actual quantity of fear that I will feel. This is big. You can’t really hide that. A new city. I don’t even know where anything is. Though I can cook, I’m not adept. And socially. Well, I think you can guess where I stand socially. So this is, as I said, momentous. I know a lot of you will already have been here and I’ve heard a lot of advice from you that really helped, so thanks! I suppose, what are adventures if not scary, exciting little opportunities? I’m going to go and live a dream. So adieu, the life that I know! And hello, London.
Shut up about point 1. Point 2– items of fashion. Seriously. I’m blogging about fashion. And the reason is that I bought certain things in the past few weeks that I really wanted to share, so I gathered up my camera and did a material photoshoot in the hope that you might enjoy looking at some of the things I shot. I’m not going to say a lot about each object, because that would propose that I know things when I really don’t.
Leather Satchel
This is my new work-purpose goat’s hide leather satchel which is tanned specific to the company. If you’re wondering whether it smells, the answer is yes and no. No in the sense that it smells of normal leather. Yes, in that it is strong. But I don’t know whether it will come out with use. I haven’t used it yet, so I have no idea of the capabilities, but it’s big enough for a laptop (wahay!) and some books.
Dr Martin’s
I’ve wanted a pair of Docs for a long time. I went to the shop to inquire, thinking I’d never in a million years actually buy a pair, and tried some on. One visit later, and I was getting them. I liked the way the staff said that Docs are like a family of shoes, so you start with the basic and if you like them, work your way up and get the more expensive ones later (if you’re lucky!).
Oxford Brogues
Okay, okay, this was pure indulgence. Why do you need another pair of shoes?! Well, I just- they were- oh, leave me alone! I took photographs with light streaming in on them and they were so shiny they just took the colour of the room. In actual fact, as you’ll see in the shaded ones, they are black.
Retro Glasses
I mentioned last blog I had to buy some new glasses. These were only basic brand but I love them! I love how this retro model looks quite good now. So I thought I’d mention them.
Thank you for putting up with this abnormal blog post! My next one I’ll be a fully fledged human being living an adult life. Wish me luck!
Ah, what an adventure it will be! 🙂 Moving out and living on my own was hard for me at first, but now I can’t imagine it any other way. It might take some time, but you’ll adjust and you can do it!! I’m not an amazing cook – in fact, I try to cook as little as I can (haha, part lazy, part poor) so need to worry there. PB&J and mac ‘n cheese are my best friends. 🙂
I am so excited for you! I can’t wait to hear about it when you do move!
I love those glasses. I recently got contacts and I’m kind of missing wearing glasses now – but I’m not fond of the ones that I have at the moment. I’m looking for something similar to yours, except maybe even a little more simple.
I’m sure you’ll adapt well to the new surroundings. Living on your own equals new responsibilites, as you said, but also includes so much freedom. Oh, the freedom that I envy you. Imagine being the only person to take into consideration when doing anything, like preparing dinner, as long as it suits you. Ah, I sound like a child.
That leather satchel looks splendid. I’ve been looking for a similar one for over three years! Really, they’re not easy to come around around these parts. And good luck walking in your Docs! It’ll be worth it, I can already tell.
Hopefully the new adjustment to your new place will be easy for you. Some people wish they can be independent from their parents but can’t because of financial issues. You’re lucky to take that leap :D. Since you’re moving out, you’ll gain some new skills you didn’t know you have before.. Like master chef Soph!
Your leather satchel looks nice and vintagey! I totally dig it for that reason :P. It looks like it will do the job with carrying all of the stuff you need. And hurray for new Docs! The only “docs” I know of is Dr Dre headphones, haha. And your other shoes look nice and shiny :3. Such class!
